First Game of the Season

Today Morgan & I went to Valley City for the first game of Jordan's senior year. It was terribly hot (90 degrees) and even though we used a ton of sunscreen we both ended up a little burned.

Here is Jordan making a 2 point conversion putting the score at 14 - 7
This was another nice play...sorry, I don't know how many yards they gained.
The following 3 pics are all in order - another great play!

Morgan was busy video taping while I took the still shots. We had a lot of fun.
The best part was that Valley City beat Moorhead State 30 - 29!!
Here is an article from the VCSU Webpage:

Coming into the game, the perception from most observers was that VCSU looked to be the underdog going against DII and NSIC member Moorhead St. The Vikings quickly changed that perception by driving 75 yards in nine plays to take an early 6-0 lead. The drive was capped by a 5 yard strike from Beilke to Calhoun in what would be their first of three such connections.
MSUM answered to close the first quarter with six play 62 yard drive ending with an Enol Giles touchdown dive. The score gave MSUM a short lived 7-6 lead.Beilke and Calhoun would hook up on a 78 yard scoring play early in the second quarter to give the Vikings back the lead. After a two point conversion by Jordan Fylling the score stood at VCSU 14 – MSUM 7. VCSU extended the lead to 20-7 when Michael Webber intercepted a Craig Kutz pass and returned it 37 yards for the score. An MSUM touchdown run by Eric Ames and a VCSU field goal by Marineo Toslluku wrapped up the scoring in the first half and gave VCSU a 23-14 halftime cushion.
The Dragons controlled most of the second half as the Vikings struggled to get anything going of offense. MSUM scored two touchdowns and converted on a two point try to take a 29-23 lead at the six minute mark in the fourth quarter. With 6:00 minutes to go the Vikings took over and mounted what would prove to be the game winning drive. Beilke and Calhoun connected four times on the drive including a crucial fourth down conversion at the MSUM 18 yard line. On third and two Beilke once again called Calhoun's number as he lofted a fade to the back corner of the end zone, Calhoun then leaped over his defender securing the go ahead score with 2:12 on the clock.
MSUM would threaten in the closing seconds but their 39 yard field goal attempt was kicked into the line and blocked. The win puts the Vikings at 1-0.
They will take next week off before traveling to Peru, NE to take on Peru State in non-conference action.
